Objective

The objective of DoSo! Coaching & Counseling is to assist international companies by helping their expat employees and their partners to feel at home during the critical settling in period and stay in the Netherlands (or elsewhere in the world). In her approach DoSo! Coaching & Counseling primarily focuses on the accompanying partner. Stress resulting from a long lasting feeling of dissatisfaction of the partner can have a negative effect on the whole family and on the expat employee in particular leading to less efficiency at work and in some cases to the early termination of the international assignment, or even break-up of the family. 

The Global Relocation Trends Survey from 2011 showed that the most common reasons for turning down assignments, were family concerns, partner’s career, and employee career aspirations. Additionally, when asked which family challenges were critical to companies, respondents mentioned family adjustment, children’s education, and partner resistance as the top three reasons.

Through the program “Making Holland Your Second Home” DoSo! Coaching & Counseling helps to empower expat spouses to have a fulfilled life during their stay in the Netherlands as well when returning to their home country. As a result of the program they will experience their live in the Netherlands as an exciting adventure full of opportunities rather than a hurdle that one has to overcome. A happy person is radiating happiness on her children and partner. A happy partner (employee) is relaxed and has time and energy to focus on the international assignment without having a feeling of guilt. This leads to a productive employee on the work-floor and a higher chance on a successful completion of the assignment. Everyone benefits from it.

Thanks to this program an expat will:

  • Better understand the cultural differences between the Dutch culture and his/her own culture and how the Dutch culture works in practice. As a result he/she will be able to deal in a better way with the cultural differences, which will make himself/herself feeling more at ease and will make his/her life easier;

  • Understand the process that he/she is going through while settling. Living in a new environment can cause a major shift in the perception of identity due to new roles and responsibilities;
  • Find out how does he/she want to live her life while staying in the Netherlands: Find out new life priorities and values, decide to find a new job or role while abroad, and re-discover existing passions and fulfill dreams.
